1. Completely Free and very easy to do, get outside first thing in the morning!
The mountain air is crisp and fresh with the smell of earthy scents and spruce trees. No matter the season up there its always gorgeous and you’ll often see wildlife. In winter bring your house shoes and grab a blanket and a hot cup of coffee if even for a few minutes it will leave you so full looking at the sun rising over Mt. Silverheels from the deck as both cabins face east!
2. Take advantage of the sauna! (Included in your Rental Price for either cabin!)
Year round it never gets very hot in the high elevation country. I love a morning sauna myself! Be sure to hydrate with water first since you will be sweating but it's a great way to support acclimation, your body’s natural detoxification, it feels nice, and you can do it at your own pace! Optimal use is 10-20 mins followed by cooling down and hydrating for 10-15 mins then going back in for a 2nd time or 3rd if you're feeling good and use a sauna often. I think the most important thing is it teaches you to listen to yourself! It's too hot to bring in a device and you have to check in with yourself in your head often. I love to use sauna oil in my hair or to massage my face/shoulders to get my lymphatic system going and stretch my body. There is no right or wrong as long as you don’t push yourself too hard and hydrate plenty. *always consult your physician of course!
3. Go for a walk or hike!
Getting out and about is such a treat in the Rockies, so much to see and you can go as easy or challenging as you’d like. We are always happy to suggest hikes or walks customized to you depending on your goals, skills, and time of year. Even walking around our rural neighborhood is a treat year round! Deer, moose, wildflowers, small waterfalls from creek run offs, you can even get to some trailheads from the house if you’re feeling ambitious and it's the right time of year. Otherwise a car will get you to hundreds of trails nearby as close as 15 mins away. Check out some of our top Breckinridge hikes!
4. Family movie or game nights!
We don’t watch much of TV ourselves on a normal basis but we do love to have a family/friend movie night at the cabin! We find it makes it a treat for everyone and a nice way to wind down after a big adventurous day, especially if you’re visiting in the winter when the days are shorter. Use of the game rooms is another great screen free option to have a local beer or beverage of choice and get a little competitive. We also stock some summer outdoor games when the weather is right!
5. In cabin massage!
This is a splurge of course but what a way to relax. We partner with a local holistic minded massage therapist, Molly with Zen Ren Healing Arts, who can offer a wide variety of services at her local office in Fairplay (15 mins away). If you’re a good planner then you can reserve this for your stay with schedule flexibility but for a last minute add on she can usually accommodate in her office as in-cabin experiences need to be scheduled ahead of time to reserve. Ask me (your host) about how this works and I can get you pricing and contact her on your behalf!
6. A steam shower to relax!
If you’re staying at the A-frame, I would highly recommend the private steam shower in the master bedroom. I love to steam shower after skiing or before a massage. I find the steam really relaxes my joints and muscles and is a great way to get heat exposure without feeling pushed like in a sauna. It’s also fantastic for our high elevation environment in Alma. High elevation means very dry moisture content in the air. If your nose feels off or your lips chapped or struggling respiratory wise steam is a fantastic way to open up your airways and get moisture into your nose. Of course this is something you should also make sure you’re fit to do and stay hydrated as well. *always consult your physician of course!
